Well...

We are making some head way this year.  FINALLY!

D.S. is improving daily on his 'want to' attitude.  D.D. has challenged herself to read.  I guess she will do it now.  Of course, this is the D.D. way.

Both kids favorite subject has to be the Bible.  They both enjoy singing and dancing so yes, this is our favorite thing to do. Normally both participate in the others class.
The DVD are recorded with poor sound quality though, and we are have time issues because I need to purchase another TV.  We have tried a few speakers for the laptop, but it hasn't helped much.  sigh, as we travel this is another problem we encountered too.  I bought a 900 dollar laptop to solve it.  Now, I have to find some speakers to make it roar.

D.D. has been attended both classes and its funny how the first grader is answering the 4th graders questions.  HA!  Maybe this is D.S.'s new found inspiration.

Later!

Memorial Day

thanks to the service men and women for all their greatness they share with us.

We had a great picnic at the river. No school today! We did some 4 wheeler riding, swam a little, played football, and really enjoyed hanging out with each other.

We will do school... TOMORROW!

WELL

Our first part of the new year has been BUSY! First Grade is coming along nicely. Daughter M. is slowly getting adjusted to this new learning style. She loves it most the time. I am seeing she is getting a bit bored in the last few days. I am going to take that as a sign that she understands the material. LOL!

Son D. 4th grade has been DIFFICULT! He has not made the adjustment well. He does not want to do it, and He does not see the need in this stuff. LOL, normal ten year old. He has been a hands on learner from the beginning so seat work is really hard for him. We are making progress though. Slow and steady wins the race. We will keep on plugging along day by day. This is a complete pep talk for myself.

The Switch

I will have to be very honest. The conversion has been hard on me. Trying to get used to schooling again has be a little bumpy, but well worth it. I am pleased with every bit of the program thus far. The Bible is great. Costomer service is outstanding, and the teacher are actually there for you.

So Far so good!

ABEKA

We have started a new journey recently. We are trying to re-school ourselves. LOL, the process hasn't been as painful as I first imagined. Dylan is having a bit of trouble staying focused and simply doing the 'penmanship.' The way I see it, this subject is meaningful, but not mentally challenging, thus Dylan is not going to pay much attention to it. Another hurdle I have found has been his testing. I am still having to watch the videos and retest him on some ideas. HE LOSES FOCUS! Anyway, Dylan's Favorite Subject right now, BIBLE! YEAH!

Mandy, my driven child, she is completing 2 per day. she wants to catch up with Dylan. still working on proficient reading skills. Her comprehension and math skills seem to be up to par. Mandy's Favorite Subject right now, BIBLE! DOUBLE YEAH!

We are switching to ABEKA!

Due to my current job schedule and recent acceptance into the OSHA program, I am going to use Abeka DVD learning for the next year. Nervous YES! Scared, A little! Am i disappointed in Sonlight, NO WAY! We are just having to do what we have to do!

So will update and post pics of the arrival of our new curriculum! LATER!

Amazed...

Dylan... sitting at the table driving his cars through the modeling clay says... "ITS ALWAYS TODAY"

Its always today... The more i think and ponder on this I am amazed by the wisdom of children. Not just my own, but all kids have the gift, until scarred by us to know certain truths. How easy it is to get so busy with life. The amazing idea... IT IS TODAY! No waiting for tomorrow for it will never come, and yesterday cant be changed or alter, it was after all another today that has passed...

We have today, we have this moment, we will have forever. No doubts from this blogger. My forever is locked in by the blood of Jesus who died on a cross for all sinners so that we may HAVE LIFE!

Wow, Its always today!

Christmas down Birthday's next

2010 was great. Many ideas and concepts mastered. Dylan is reading great. Multiplying/division is coming along. Mandy is mastering her phonic skills and she is excelling in math... Yeah! Next step, NARRATIVE WRITING for Dylan... oh my this has been a CHALLENGE. Onward solider, we march...

After Christmas, we must start our birthday fiestas... Dylan and Mandy were born 3 years and 11 days apart. This year we are combining their parties. They weren't extremely thrilled with this idea, but birthday cakes and ice cream sure will smooth over everything. :)

We will being having the party within the next two weeks! Yikes! Better step up my game and get busy!

A little enlightenment Goes Far...

Recently I have had the chance to study a GREAT Bible Study. Beth Moore's A Woman's Heart, God's Dwelling Place. I simply LOVED IT. Had such great history, and she is a great teacher. I guess the best part was her love of doing it. She is so covered with the love of God that it spills into the pages and she teaches us what the Lord has taught her. GO GET THIS BIBLE STUDY, its GREAT!!!!

I have seen peeps, drag, moan, and complain in everything they do whether it be wiping a kids nose, working hard at their job task, or even having fun (ex. its too hot, its too cold, im to tired to do this or that) People Wake up! You have one shot, one life, and if you dont enjoy every single min. of it then its your loss...

Now, I would like to clarify a bit... I do not mean living to the extreme, we all will meet God one day, and we will have to answer for every action, word, and deed that we take part in... I sure hope he tells me WELL DONE. I am working on it, but I fail time after time... I do see the beauty all around me. Esp the beauty of people, all of them. The ones who are floundering. The ones who are boring, the ones who are what the world calls 'uncool' I love them all... got to admit though, I am not good at getting along with them all yet... pray for me there too!

He who has start a work in you will finish it! Even though it takes a life time!

Nov. 6th 2010

I know its been an awful long time since I blogged.... I would like to say we have been BUSY! DD: has made loads of progress with reading and her math is zooming. DS: he has learned to enjoy reading, but we are working on it. We are starting the process of writing which has been as fun as a trip to the dentist... UGG! I will NOT give up! I wont let him either.

On a lighter note, my trip with God is in overdrive. I have been restored, renewed, and enlightened by the Father above... Praise the Lord. DS: accepted the Lord in his heart July 31st 2010... the holy spirit was all over my house, and I didnt even realize that my son was being called to the kingdom of heaven... WOW! So glad God gave me the chance to be his mom! W2G Dylan!

We are visiting Yorktown Va. Since Aug. we have been to Pennington, AL, Courtland, AL, and Yorktown, VA. Its starting to get cold, and our southgeorgia skin is showing through. BRRRRR! and its only 57 degrees...

JUNE - JULY 2009

We have traveled a lot year and wow, the things we have learned. One of our newest addition to our adventure has been Geocaching. We love to hunt boxes in awesome and great locations. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys the outdoors to check into this "sport." www.geocaching.com

In June, 2009, we headed up the country to Ticonderoga, NY... Amazing country... Beautiful mountains, huge lakes, and wow..... cows??? I guess being a southern belle all my like I never expected upstate NY to have such a rural atmosphere....

Most of the month, we hung out climbed 4 mountains, swam in the lakes of Champlain, and we had the BEST ICE CREAM EVER!!!

This was a very nice hike to our "box"... Once at the top, we had to sit right there and rest!!!

Today was Great

Our adventure at the library.  For the longest time, I have been avoiding the library.  Up until today, the library has been an experience of total embarrassment for me since the birth of my adorable and controlling daughter, Mandy.  She was awesome, and she obeyed, and she respected others.  I am thrilled.  Hopefully, this day will be repeated over and over again.
Another goal I set for ds was locating his own book.  He was successful.  To the card catalog, entered info, and located the book, with a little help from me.
We had a great first day of school, and they accomplished much.  This is going to be the best year yet!

I write this now for encouraging words in the up coming months>>> HAHAHA

The First Day...

Tomorrow is the first day.  I have studied and I am prepared.  We are going at it full force and I have a surprise for the first day.  A trip to the library!  Dylan has a science project dealing with magnets.  So I am going to send him after this book.  Mandy was a bit more challenging to imagine what she needed to pick, so I came up with the idea she has to find a book with the letter F in the title... ?  She liked the idea and that's all that matter's.  Now we are set, and I am very excited to start that whole ordeal...
We are still waiting for Dylan's cursive writing book, and one more book of time.  We can deal with these two lacking books for the moment...  Until tomorrow folks... GOOD NIGHT!

Saturday, June 6, 2009

Wow. I am totally impressed!

Well, our box has arrived and my ig's are put together...  Now for the planning.

Dylan, who is very much anti-schoolwork, is driving me nuts to get started!  YEAH.  He even commented that these books look awesome.  Maybe (keep fingers crossed) he will love reading and blossom this year.  Mandy is a handful and we are dealing with a very sassy attitude.  She is doing quite well with her schooling and at the moment she is at a good level.

Now I have to figure out how to work and educate both kids with this curriculum.  I may have to quit working..  God let me make the right choice.

It is BOX DAY!

To start things off, I need to let you guys in on our history.  This past year was our first complete year of homeschooling.  My focus for my ds,  was Math, adding and subtraction, basic grouping ideas, and manipulative's.  Another goal for him was Reading.  To be quite honest, he hated to read.  This really was disturbing to me, so I have tried this past to invite him to the world of reading in a good way.  Which it turned out to be like a trip to the sand spur patch without shoes on my feet!
In March, I remembered a great series of books that I read in middle school, The Boxcar Children! Each night, I would tuck everyone in and start to read.  I guess I am guilty of "tricking him?"  :0
I would read until there was a great part, and then I would have to go for instance, change the laundry, etc!  He eventually picked the book up and started reading!!!!
So to wrap the history up for my ds, I concentrated on what he needed!
My dd, learnt most of her letters, sounds, numbers, basic addition, and crafting!!!  Lol, Pre K was GREAT!  She soaks in everything and always wants more work!

This 'school year' I have purchased Sonlight.  I am ecstatic.  I have been preparing for about two weeks, hyping the kids up, cleaning out the old and so ready for the new!!!
TODAY IS OUR VERY FIRST BOX DAY!!!

We will start working our new materials next Monday.  Our job slows down for us in the summer which allows more complete focus.  The winter months, which are their birthdays, we take off. I wasn't sure where to start ds.  For him, I chose Core 1 with Readers 2 Intermediate, LA 2, Science 1, handwriting without tears, Art, and Bible.  DD will do the K program.  I went ahead and bought the beginning readers and readers 1 because she goes through stuff quickly.  Even if she doesn't get to them this year, she will eventually!

Tuesday, June 2, 2009

Just in case you were wondering, we are starting our new school year next Monday...
